Purse from a Vintage Book

May 13th, 2005 | Categories: General

Book PurseI found 3 very cool books at the Goodwill a while back and bought them to make purses. I love the way this one turned out, but I don’t need 3 of them so I am hoping to sell a couple. They have the absolute cutest pictures on them, and fun titles, too. You can see more pictures of this one, including the inside and a closeup detail, on the eBay ad. Click here to buy (heehee, a little subliminal suggestion), or just to window shop. I haven’t made the other two yet, but one is lavendar and one a very pale pink. I think this green one may be my favorite, though. It is a prettier green than the photo shows and I love the little organ grinder and monkey on the cover.

Hey, the purse is way cool! I have a librarian friend who might be interested in one, but I don’t think she would like the beaded handle style. Is there a way to make one with a fabric shoulder strap?

That purse looks fabulous! It makes me wonder where all the cool (now retro fabulous) books I had as a child are now… Thanks for the tip about securing beaded projects you left on my site – glue! Durrrr… why didn’t I think of that? Problem solved.

Wow Melisa, is that ever cool! I wish I had seen it sooner or at least read the message that went with it. I would have loved to bid on that. Make more! Make more! :-)

I LOVE THIS. It’s beautiful. I would have bid if I had known. My eldest daughter is getting married in October and I am looking for a unique lavendar color purse to go with my gray dress and would love to see a pic of that one. I would also love to try and make one, can you tell me how did you attach the handle? Where can you purchase the handle hardware? I assume you used a glue to secure the fabric to the book? I would love to make these and give as gifts. OMG, it’s just beautiful. Any help and suggestins from you would be appreciated. Let me know when you’ll have another for sale on ebay. Thanks for your time. Rosanna

Would you know where I can locate a pattern for a beaded thunderbird? I would love to have a thunderbird for my regalia. If anyone has such a pattern they can share with me, it would greatly appreciated.
