Starting a new journal and some doodling.

Time to start a new journal! I made this one a while back, so I’d have it ready when I finished the big one. I think It’s going to take just as long to get used to these smaller pages as it did to get used to the big ones last time.

The orange page is really the inside cover. I’ll probably add more to it as I go along, which is what usually happens with the inside covers. I love drawing these little birds with watercolor crayons. I put some in my last journal and I guess you’ll be seeing them in this one, too.

My ice queen is such a party girl that she doesn’t just wear a lampshade on her head, she wears the whole chandelier!

The 2 black and white images are just doodles that I did at night while pretending to watch TV with DH. The one of the hallway isn’t finished, but I rarely go back to these doodles so I’m calling it done anyway. On the other one, I kept turning it round and round as I worked, and now I can’t decide which end is up, LOL.

Altered Text & a new hand carved stamp

I did this page in one of my altered text books as my Art on the Couch last night. The text reads, “One hand over his heart.” The window is a rubber stamp I just finished carving. It’s about 6″ tall. I love windows and doors so I decided a window would be a stamp I would use in my journal a lot.

Last night’s Art on the Couch project. 3 Derwent Drawing pencils in my sketchbook. I really love these creamy pencils, but I do wish they were erasable. They are so much smoother than the Prismacolor drawing pencils (used on yesterday’s AoC project), but the Prismacolors erase better.

Art on the Couch

I’ve been trying to work on some little art something on the couch at night so I can sit with hubby while he watches TV. He complains if I disappear into the art room. There’s not a lot I can do on the couch, especially with him sitting there too, but I can practice drawing in my sketchbook. This was last night’s “art on the couch”. Needs work, but it is just for practice so I won’t be doing anything else to it. It’s kind of nice to know that when I go to bed, it’s done, whether I like it or not. I don’t have to try to fix anything I don’t like, I don’t even have to finish it. But I still feel like I accomplished something I wouldn’t have just sitting there in front of the TV.

I’ve done a couple of pages in my new BIG journal but I haven’t scanned them yet. The size is a little daunting, after working in the little one. It takes longer to do a page and it is hard to find words to fill the space. I think the next one will be somewhere in between the little journal and the big one.

A Barefoot Beauty and a hand-carved stamp

Another Barefoot Beauty. This is Bethany and I think she is my favorite so far. I’ve got 2 more waiting to be finished up and scanned but I’ve gotten side-tracked.
This is a stamp I carved last night. I should have put it on a flatter surface when I actually stamped it on the paper, but you get the idea. It’s about 4 inches square. I used it on today’s journal page. I’ll upload that later.

A couple of new pages in one of my Altered Text books. I had a really bad day with my hip yesterday and was pretty much couch-ridden for the day, so I grabbed my pencils and crayons and my book and entertained myself with that. Click the images to see them larger and read the text.

I had to make more. These are Lindsay and Bridget. These are good to work on at night after the family is in bed, especially since my current knitting project is stalled waiting for buttons. I drew these night before last and drew 2 more last night. Still need to get those last 2 painted, so they’ll make an appearance soon. I’m thinking of maybe adding these to my poor empty Etsy store. I thought people might like to use them in their own art projects. What do y’all think?

PS – I just noticed that little spot in Bridget’s background and went and checked. It must be on my scanner, because it isn’t actually on the card. Phew!

3 Barefoot Beauties for Mixed Media Monday

The Theme for MMM this week is Spring Colors. I had a fabric piece in mind to do, but then couldn’t find half the stuff I needed. It’s here somewhere, but I can’t find it. Once I gave up looking, I decided to draw a little girl wearing a pretty spring dress. I grabbed a gessoed page from an old book and went to work. Then I decided I wanted a freckled red-head so I made another. And then one more. I glued them to the back of some of those long playing cards I had. They may end up in my journal on added to some other piece, eventually. I’ve named them Calista, Robyn, and Marah, from left to right.
